Memories of Samson by Mary E.
Samson was just shy of 10 when he died. Another dog attacked him while we were just standing still a good distance away, totally unprovoked.
What we didn't know at the time was that Samson had cancer in his spine, which was discovered after X-raying his injured back. The other dog caused 2 spinal fractures, and Samson was paralyzed in his back legs within a few days. Consequently, we quickly made the decision to end his pain.
Samson was an incredibly sweet soul, and he never complained, even though the level of pain must have been excruciating. In his last hours, we invited the gal who owned the facility where he boarded and went to daycare to come say goodbye. We watched Samson drag himself through the yard on his front legs to see her.
The courage and inner strength he showed up to his last breath in life, was an incredible example for me to conquer extremely difficult circumstances that were immediately ahead in my life.
